Post-Production: Title and Credits

For the title, I used WeVideo's motion titles. I chose a simple effect of the title fading in and fading out. The text was in white over a plain black background. Overall, I think the title looked quite simple yet effective.

For the credits, I picked out a font that suited my short film. Using a simple text box, I typed in the credits and set an animation on it. this created the rolling credits.

At the end, I also added an image of my institution logo and added the same animation.

Feedback on Film Poster

I got verbal feedback to help me improve on my poster. The feedback that I got was:

What went well:
  •  It followed the codes and conventions of a typical short film poster.
What I need to improve:
  • There is no tag line so I will need to add that in at the top.
  • It would look better if my logo had no background.
  • The protagonist is not in costume.

In response to this feedback, I will change my poster so that it meets audience expectations.

Film Poster Improvements

From my survey results, the first poster was chosen as the most successful. Therefore, I have developed this idea and made some improvements using the feedback.

Improvements on Short Film Review

To improve my film review, I added the Empire logo at the bottom. I also mentioned that it was released online so that viewers know where and when it will be released. Some of the grammar in the text was wrong so I corrected it.

Feedback on Short Film Review

First thing to point out was that some of my sentences did not really make much sense. Also, I did not mention where it was released. This is a problem because viewers would not know where to watch it. Furthermore, it was missing the Empire Logo.

Short Film review Draft

I have done the first draft of my short film review on Photoshop because it allows me to easily edit images and text.

Film Review Layout

Often, the layout of a film review would consist of the text in columns and a large picture of the main characters. I have looked at the layout of Empire Magazine film reviews and using that, I marked guidelines to use as a template. To do this, I used the the truler tool to drag out lines.

Structure of a Film Review

I looked at a published film review to analyse the structure.

In this particular review, it begins with a summary of the film with its rating underneath. This is then followed by the introduction which revevals their opinion on the film. A quote is used to highlight one of the key opinions. The next paragraph counters the negative points and focuses on the new characters. Following this, the review covers all the issues and discusses the problems with the narrative. Finally, the review concludes with a summary of whether it is worth watching.

Film Poster Questionnaire Results

After I got a sufficient amount of answers, I took a look at the results to see which poster my target audience thought was the most successful.

There was a tie between poster 1 and poster 3. Poster 3 was the least favourite.

I asked the target audience why they thought that their chosen poster was the most successful. The answers were quite similar. For the first poster, most said that it looked mysterious. This supports my decisions on when designing the poster as I wanted it to look slightly ambiguous. For the second poster, some said that they liked the blending of colours and the fading words.

As both posters got the same number of votes, I have to choose which one I want to develop and use as my final film poster. After weighing my decisions, I have chosen to develop the first poster. This is because it sets the right tone for the short film. It is also mysterious so that viewers do not know the whole narrative.

Film Poster Questionnaire

I have done a quick survey on Google Forms so that my target audience can vote for the most successful poster.

Feedback on Film Poster

To improve on my short film posters, I have asked my classmates to give me feeback on what went well and how could I improve.

Film Poster Design

I started with three main ideas which I could use for my film poster. To create the posters, I used Photoshop. This is because Photoshop can easily edit and manipulate images.

Idea One

For the first idea, I used my own original photography. I had to use two separate pictures, one of the forst and one of Caitlin as I didn't have one of them together. Therefore, this is not the final photo and I will take another with both the forest and Caitlin. I altered the colours so the forest looked darker which gave it a more serious atmosphere.

Idea 2

For this idea, I had to edit the images quite a lot. I edited the pictures by changing the opacity and also using the gradient tool to make the sky and characters fade away. I did the same with the title so it fades into the fog.

Idea 3

Logo Design

I have design a logo for my production company. I wanted for it to have something that incorporates my name into it so I called it Seascape Productions.

The design of the logo has a film strip which fades into a blue wave to represent that the institution produces film.

To design this logo, I have used Photoshop.

Institution Logos

Future Shorts logo is one of my favourite designs. The text is a edgy font in a camera focus square to show that it is an institution for films. It is red and black, a simple yet effective colour scheme.

Camelot Films has a illustration of a dragon in a fireball which reflects on the name.

Sundance Institute logo is simple but still represents the name. It is in a simple font over a solid yellow circle to represent the sun.

The BFI logo is three coloured bubbles with the initials in them. It almost looks like a chain link which reflects on the tagline 'Film Forever'.

For my logo, I want to include something that represents the name 'Seascape Productions'. I called it Seascape because a lot of production companies include part of their name. The image I want to use will be something that represents film and an element of the sea.

Funding of Short Films

My short film production would have a very low budget, therefore, money for equipment, distrubutton and marketing is limited. If I was to exhibit my film professionally to the public, I would probably require funding from one of these institutions.
